LUPE w/Phil Mateo - RECENTS

Optical Track is a weekly show presented by members of the Echo Park Film Center Co-op, a group of artists who collectively staff EPFC as volunteers for the cinematic revolution. Each week features a sonic slideshow as we turn off the projector bulbs and turn up the sound.

Every third Tuesday of the month, the EPFC slot is hosted by:

+ HOUR 1: Beaux Mingus
+ HOUR 2: Will O’Loughlen

Tracklist:

Hour 1: All Ball Radio All Ball all 7” mix Hour 2: DJ Wilvis Ida Lupino had already cemented her status as a Hollywood star when, in 1949, she stepped behind the camera for the first time. While she hadn’t initially planned to direct Not Wanted, a drama she co-wrote and co-produced about an out-of-wedlock pregnancy, circumstances intervened. When the original director, Elmer Clifton, suffered a heart attack during filming, Lupino stepped in to complete the project. This unexpected opportunity marked the beginning of a remarkable career as a director. In the 1950s studio system, Lupino became a rare female voice, crafting a filmography known for its intensity and realism. Her work, which includes the socially relevant The Bigamist and the noir classic The Hitch-Hiker, is now being celebrated in this episode of the Echo Park Film Center Collective’s Optical Track. We will highlight Lupino’s independent vision and boldly realistic style, making her a pioneering figure in the history of filmmaking. Thanks for tuning in. Hope you enjoy the show.
