Karim & Mara are soulmate homies that met in their late youth and quickly discovered that Cairo and Miami culture bleed into each other in magic ways. Discoteca 3ala Mars presents explorations of musical lineages between Masr, the 305 and the broader musical traditions of the surrounding regions and cultures. The intention is to explore and enjoy sounds that shape the experiences of third culture kids outside of the places they’re from.

This month we had a DJ-ing skillshare and conversation with our dear friend Bird of Paradigm. We honor and dream up a Free Palestine, weaving in Iranian, Egyptian and Latinx rhythms. Bird of Paradigm created a new visual world for our show, including revamping our logo. Catch her at zine fairs, galleries and DIY shows all around Los Angeles!

Paradise Khanmalek (aka Bird of Paradigm) is a visual artist and musician living in LA. She likes making freaky animations, graphic designs for her community and dance, pop, and punk music ~ all with fun, moody, sci fi, Iranian, and queer vibes :)
